I’ve always prided myself on never collecting unemployment between jobs. After my divorce, where I was left broke and barely able to keep a roof over my head, it never even occurred to me to apply for food stamps. However today I have officially and unintentionally become one of those people who are receiving an entitlement.

It all went down when I strolled over to the pharmacy during my lunch break to pick up my birth control refill.

After being humiliated by having to state out loud my date of birth– including the year–in front of a dozen strangers, my refill was finally presented to me.

I pulled out my platinum Amex card (which I proudly earned myself, by the way) getting ready to pay when I noticed the pharmacist looking perplexed because the amount came up as zero.

She scanned it a second time, and still nothing. She then went to the back to consult with another pharmacist while I watched my lunch hour dwindle away.

Just as I was contemplating dropping a $10 bill on the counter and grabbing my pills so I could salvage what was left of my lunch hour, the pharmacist scurried back with a huge smile on her face.

“It’s free!” she said gleefully.

“Free?” I asked, “How can that be?”

It was then that I realized that ObamaCare’s free contraception provision had just kicked in.

Yep, I got free birth control pills.

You would think that I would be happy about my free pills, but instead I was annoyed.  I can afford the $10 I’m usually charged.  For me, it simply means not going to Starbucks for two days.

But what made me angrier was the fact that someone else (i.e. the taxpayers) was paying for my personal choice!

Before I could stop myself, I turned towards the other customers waiting in line and sarcastically said, “I just want to thank you all for paying for my birth control pills!”

Now bear in mind, I was in liberal Beverly Hills. I’m sure everyone in line with me had watched in awe as Sandra Fluke gave her prime time speech at the DNC.  Nobody seemed irritated about picking up my tab—so why was I so irritated? Shouldn’t I be happy that I was getting something for free?

As I walked back to my office to eat my lunch, I tried to reconcile my feelings. The last poll I read found that 60% of Americans still dislike ObamaCare.  Could it be because all the candy is being doled out that nobody is loudly complaining about this travesty of a bill?

Liberals are always saying they want the government to stay out of their bedrooms – except, it seems, when it comes to paying for the stuff that goes on in those bedrooms.

Something is definitely wrong with this picture.

I looked up the transcript of Sandra Fluke’s DNC speech.  One quote stood out: “During this campaign, we’ve heard about the two profoundly different futures that could await women—and how one of those futures looks like an offensive, obsolete relic of our past. Warnings of that future are not distractions. They’re not imagined. That future could be real.”

What? I’ve been on birth control pills throughout the entire George W. Bush’s presidency and never once did anyone try and take my pills away from me. I also distinctly remember back in 2000 (when I was still a liberal), the Democrats claimed that Bush was going to try to overturn Roe v. Wade, but it never happened during either of Bush’s terms.  It was a non-issue then and is a non-issue now.

So while Liberals are blathering on and on about the dire need for free birth control and free abortions, I’m fretting about the spiraling deficit, high unemployment, high gas and food prices and all the new rules and regulations coming our way (a new soda tax in LA? Don’t even get me started!)

I wonder to myself if Democrats really think women are so stupid to actually buy into the Republican’s alleged war on women, especially when so many women are underemployed or out of work under Obama’s watch (which, in my mind, is the real war on women).

Seriously, is anyone even buying this argument? I decided to do an informal survey and asked several women around my office to share their thoughts.

What I discovered was surprising although not shocking. Every woman I asked bought the entire Democrat’s war on women propaganda hook line and sinker. The consensus was they were planning on voting for Obama because “he cares about women’s rights.”  Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, according to the women I surveyed, are nothing more than “women-hating Neanderthals”.

Being a closeted conservative, I could only nod my head as though in agreement.

Perhaps because everyone in my office is employed, they’re not too concerned with the state of economy. Or maybe this quote from Ann Coulter sums it up:

If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president. It’s kind of a pipe dream, it’s a personal fantasy of mine, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women. It also makes the point, it is kind of embarrassing, the Democratic Party ought to be hanging its head in shame, that it has so much difficulty getting men to vote for it. I mean, you do see it’s the party of women and ‘We’ll pay for health care and tuition and day care — and here, what else can we give you, soccer moms?’”

It appears that the fake war on women is working and Obama, the Candy Man, is giving women free stuff conveniently before the election.

Meanwhile, I can’t help but think that with my free birth control pills, I’ve unwittingly become “one of them.” I’m getting their government candy, whether I like it or not.

Anita Gunn

California PolitiChick "Anita Gunn" is a closeted conservative working the entertainment business. Anita started at a major talent agency, assisting a well-known music agent, and is now a VP at a major movie studio. Anita grew up in a very liberal Jewish home, and bought the Utopian dream of a one world government and social justice for all. Anita did her best to "save the planet," pontificating about how the evil Republicans and greedy corporations were destroying the earth. 9/11 shook Anita's foundation and everything that she believed. By the time Obama burst into the scene in 2007, Anita was morphing into a conservative. “Of course, coming out of the closet as a conservative in the entertainment industry is pretty much career suicide,” she says, so in 2011, the name "Anita Gunn" was born. Anita has done commentary about the culture war on such radio shows as the “Dr. Gina Show,” “Real Side with Joe Messina” and “Socialism is not an Option” on Blog Talk Radio. Anita started a secret conservative Facebook group which has 1000 active members, and is part of another secret group of artists who behind such videos as “Cruz Against the Machine.” There are still some remnants from Anita’s liberal days, “including the love of Astrology and wearing platforms and bellbottoms”--and yet signs of her conservative switch can be seen by her ever-present gun necklace. Anita says her goal is to “help rebrand and hip up the conservative movement to include more artists, musicians, actors, gays and minorities and young people.” Anita's belief is that if she saw the light, there are others who would also embrace the conservative movement, if only just shown the way. That would require thought. Why do liberals constantly score points with women by acting on their vilest stereotypes–emotional, irrational, needy, etc? Might the stereotype possibly be based on reality?

And yet medications that people literally cannot live without still require a co-payment (that I am happy to pay) Insurance rates will just increase to cover the lack of the co-payments that usually help cover the cost of the medication…but we taxpayers will continue to pay the increases so that they can have free birth control..well I guess it beats paying for their child.

Damn shame Obama’s momma did not have access to free birth control pills. She was apparently having sex with anything or anyone who asked. Would have saved America a lot of trauma.

I have a Cheetos and String Cheese habits. Do you think the government will pay for a fix?

Barrack Obama AKA “Frank Davis Marshall Junior” his mother should have used the birth control herself instead of burdening the world with such a Looser.

And this what you call an idiotic response.

This is precisely what is wrong with Obamacare and federal government administration of any/all programs beyond the military. It’s always overkill. If we are to have a national healthcare policy, it should be used as a fall back position for castastropic situations, not for birth control regimens, or every little cough or sniffle that comes down the road. Primary care should be the individual’s responsibility and be in the form of cash out of the pocket or and individually procured medical insurance policy. The government usurping this individual responsibility just denigrates the individual and sets a bad standard for personal accountability. I really believe employer provided healhcare does the same thing but to a somewhat lesser degree. Insurance provided healthcare and a lack of individual accountability are primary reasons for the unfounded increases in healthcare costs. Just look at your next EOB and see what the provider actually charged versus what the insurance actually paid, plus your out of pocket…I think you will still see and significant difference.

Great article but a little partisan (obviously this is a conservative website, you have to appeal to your base). I take issue with a few things. First, there is a myth that you’re insinuating; Taxpayers=Republicans. Democrats are also taxpayers. Independents are also taxpayers. Secondly, your 60% poll is a bit far fetched. It’s split about 53%/47%. Third, nothing is free. Someone is paying for it.Hence everyone HAS to have insurance. Tell a low income person that insurance is optional and see if they will go out to get insurance. A majority of them won’t.Lastly, you just fed into Anne Coulter’s narrative of “blame it on single women”.God forbid you ever become a single mother, Anne would eat you up and denigrate you and make you the scum of the earth. Look up Anne’s remarks about single mothers.Anita, I agree with you that unemployment is important, debt needs to be addressed, national security, education, energy independence etc are all important things. But there are other important things too like a woman’s health. We can disagree on many policies but to generalise that Democrats don’t care about anything but abortions and birth control, is plain wrong. Good read though.

I absolutely hope and pray that Democrats take full advantage of the free birth control.

Now listen to me. I am a 63 yo man that has ‘E. D.’. My 70 yo wife wants a baby but becuase I have E.D., I can’t impregnate her. I demand free testosterone treatments to bring me up to ‘Par’. She wants a poke & I want to give it to her~!~This g’ment ‘owes’ me and when I get it, it will be because “I built it”~!!

    • patriot2

Haha fertility type treatments are the opposite of contraception. We will pay you not to impregnate her. Good one though.

Hi Anita and everyone:)) WOW! Now this is an issue that causes feelings on both sides. I am totally against abortion and so this freebie nonsense is a concern. First of all the fact that this country kills how many unborn on a daily basis? Disgusting! And free at that? Is it going to be free for even the muslim women. Is Obama going to make sure they get abortions and birth control also? Oh no !!!. Only for non islam americans, Christians and especially Catholics. Oh and of course all illegal immigrants Hahahahahahhaa They get everything free! What a joke! This demon has got to go once and for all ! And do not mess with us Catholics with your birth control issue. You just want your cult of Islam to take over the world like Pinky and the brain L O L !! NOT!!! Have a great weekend everyone and hate is going to get us no where :))

  • patriot2

I totally agree. Trying to be positive. This could save millions on medicaid costs if more ladies get free bc pills but have to pay for prenatal vitamins, child care, and college (don’t even want to get started on that one). Lets just chip in for the pills and hope they actually take them. It makes me sick that women are just popping babies out with no plan on how to finance it. As much as I dislike Obama, this could be a good idea. Combined with making people pay if they do have a child (no medicaid for your babies, pre-natal visits, ect.). You were offered FREE contraception so if you choose to make babies YOU pay for them.
