Donald Trump: Genius, Patriot, or Idiot? by Lyda Loudon

Monday, Donald Trump announced that he had “something very, very big concerning the President of the United States,” that he planned to release Wednesday. Immediately, a firestorm erupted of predictions, responses, thoughts, opinions and otherwise among bloggers and the press.
As a staunch “birther,” many predicted that Mr. Trump’s announcement would be related to President Obama’s citizenship status or birth certificate. On numerous occasions, Trump has spoken out requesting President Obama release his birth certificate to the public, as they have a right to know that their President is constitutionally qualified to hold his office. The President has spent millions in legal fees to keep his birth certificate and other documentation hidden. Mr. Trump simply believes that citizens have questions and deserve answers. When President Obama finally did release his birth certificate (which some claim to have evidence is a product of photo editing or CGI), Trump took credit for its release. Although, several other powerful figures from both sides of the aisle had spoken out with concerns regarding President Obama’s lack of transparency about his past, there could be some legitimacy to Trump’s claim, as he did cause quite an uproar by utilizing his powerful positions as a successful businessman and influential figure.
As promised, Mr. Trump released this video with his announcement on Wednesday. He simply requests that President Obama release his college records and passport applications. In return, Mr. Trump will give five million dollars to any charity of the President’s choosing within one hour of receiving the documents he requests. The rule, however, is that President Obama must take advantage of this opportunity prior to the evening of the 31st of this month.
Mr. Trump’s offer has many people in the media and blogsphere touting that the announcement was built up as something much larger than it actually is. Some people from both sides of the aisle see the information Mr. Trump is requesting as irrelevant. The way I see it, this is Mr. Trump’s way of doing his patriotic, civic duty. One of his most famous quotations is, “If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.” He is giving the President an opportunity to become a slightly more transparent public servant, as he should have been from the beginning of his political career, and definitely his presidential term. To top it all off, Mr. Trump is prepared to give five million dollars of his money to a charity. That is not selfishness or arrogance; all he gets out of the deal is the peace of knowing that he did something for his country. Who has a right to criticize that?
The left, the bloggers, the media, and whoever else can criticize Donald Trump all day long. He is probably doing a heckuva lot more for this country than any of them are. The question is, does President Obama have the guts to take the offer, release his information, and allow Trump to give that five million to charity? Maybe he will simply dismiss it like it’s a cabinet meeting, important briefing, or a request for additional security at an embassy and go do something cute, like hit up on The View instead.
